It has been a struggle to keep the business going,as batiking has become highly competitive,with bigger companies squeezing out the small family run businesses, and some customers,such as schools and churches, delaying their payments for months.

But the women persevere on.

Alice Korsah,main seanstress at the Batik and Sewing Center,is herself an entrepreneur.

Her hard work and high quality sewing has enabled her to grow her business enough to take on a few apprentices.

But there is also heavy competition in sewing and Alice keeps pushing ahead,growing her savings in the Progressive Womens Credit Union,so she can one day take out a loan and expand her business.

Alice has saved $350 so far.
